Young soccer stars shine at Pre-Mini games
The soccer fields at Eduvors Campus Midrand came alive early last month with the vibrant talent of young girls from Thembisa and nearby areas. The Pre-Mini Games was a showcase of soccer flair that featured 8 teams.Coach and player Makarina Mokoena, a driving force behind the event, shared, “It was a collective decision by our 8 club owners to have Revival Games for Women’s Football in Midrand LFA. This initiative aims to give hope and motivation to our ladies, especially after last season’s league couldn’t finish due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Makarina’s passion for community service extends beyond the field. She’s actively involved in various youth development projects in Thembisa and frequently participates in tournaments. Notably, she hosts the Makarina Annual Tournaments, which encompass a variety of sporting codes and activities, fostering holistic development among the youth.
One of the highlights of the Pre-Mini Games was the introduction of new players by most clubs. These players, displaying remarkable talent and confidence, delighted spectators and added to the event’s excitement. Moreover, the games provided budding coaches, who were once grassroots players themselves, with a platform to showcase their coaching skills.
“There’s great potential for our ladies’ clubs to develop more talent and feed into higher leagues and the national level,” remarked coach Katlego, emphasizing the need for continued community and LFA support.
While sponsorship for female football in South Africa remains limited, there are positive changes. Tembisa, in particular, has witnessed a surge in female soccer teams, with various leagues sprouting up across Ekurhuleni. The future looks bright for these young soccer stars, and their passion and determination are truly inspiring,
