Kaalfontein man shot dead over robbery

IVORY PARK – A 42-year-old man from Kaalfontein was shot during a robbery. He would later succumb to his injuries in hospital. According to the statement issued by the police, the incident took place during the festive season. “This happened in the early hours of the morning during a robbery in which three cellular phones were taken by two criminals, one of whom was armed with a firearm,” said the statement.

Immediately after two shots were fired, the family and the adjacent community noticed that the suspects had run out of ammunition, tables were turned on the criminal. One alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob.

“We would have liked to have the deceased alive; maybe his incarceration may have ended up with solving similar crimes committed in the area and the immediate surroundings,” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.

Brigadier Ngcobo also appealed to the community to report crimes and criminal activities and to thoroughly know who their tenants are and their sources of income to enable us to live peacefully in our homes.  “Let’s not tolerate or idolize criminals,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
