Ivory Park man rapes a child

IVORY PARK – A man in Ivory Park has been arrested for raping a child. According to a statement issued by the police, the man was arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl.

“Detectives from the Ekurhuleni District’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Family Violence (FCS) unit have on Tuesday arrested the man for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old. The suspect and the parents of the victim are all tenants at the same place in Ivory Park’s Extension Eight,” says the statement issued by the police.

The suspect (36) has on two occasions raped the victim while her mother was not around. This ordeal became too much for the little girl, who informed her teacher at her school, who subsequently informed a social worker. It was these two professionals who brought the horror that the child had to endure to the mother’s attention.

The man will be charged with two counts of rape and is expected to appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. The Acting Station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Colonel Baba Mpotoane was saddened by this incident and is calling on parents to consider their children’s security whenever they are going out.  He said: “ For children to be less vulnerable to dangerous situations they must not be left at home or elsewhere where  they can become susceptible to any form of abuse, alcohol and drugs,” he cautioned.
