Olifantsfontein Primary School receives 112 pairs of school shoes a donation by the Midstream Community after hosting a fundraising event earlier this year. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic destructing not only our livelihood but also our finances the community of Midstream saw it fit to come together and support hard stricken communities with much necessary help.
On behalf of the Midstream community, Mamane Munyoro visited Olifantsfontein Primary in Thembisa to donate a box of 112 school shoes. Munyoro said it all started when Spar Supermarket had a special where after spending R500 you can then buy a pair of shoes at R40.00.
“The initial plan was that every household must buy a pair of shoes after spending so much on their shopping, but parents said this process is too slow so we started collecting money,” says Munyoro.
“After that, we came together to host a fundraising event where we had different stalls services the community. As the Midstream community, we still look forward to raising funds to buy school jerseys for kids just before winter. We look forward to establishing a strong and continuous relationship with the school and of cause working hand in hand with the teachers in trying to identify the needs of the learners,” explains Munyoro.

Corlene Steyn, School-Based Support Team (SBST) Co-coordinator at Olifantsfontein Primary School, said they blessed as a school to have been chosen to be receivers of such contribution. It is always our great honour to receive any donation which greatly contributes to the success of our school learners.
“This will bring much-needed relief to the parents because some of these kids come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This benefits the parents as well if they can be able to save R200.00 or R150.00 of school shoes I am sure that amount can be converted to buying something of great value this Christmas.
“The shoes are of good quality and they will be able to cover at least 100 + learners between grades 1, 2 and 3. The school always has its doors open for any donations, anyone willing to donate can contact us at 011 316 1470,” says Steyn. “We thank the Midstream Community for their kind gestures and blessed is the hand that gives.”
