CLEAN YOUR BINS TO CURB COVID-19

With Covid-19 spreading across the globe, the need for all of us to practise good hygiene has never been greater. This means that we have to take extra care to keep our homes clean and disinfected, as this will reduce the chance of the coronavirus being transmitted through commonly touched surfaces.

The City of Ekurhuleni urges residents to wear gloves, wash their hands, and disinfect their bins to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
“Waste collectors handle many bins on a daily basis. The gloves they wear are for personal protection, and are therefore not regularly changed. Should one bin be contaminated, other bins handled thereafter may be contaminated,” says the statement.

“Customers are urged to take precautionary measures, such as washing hands, wearing gloves, and disinfecting the bins to prevent contracting infections that may be caused by the multiple contacts waste collectors have with many bins,” concludes the statement.
