FASHION AT MOSES MOLELEKWA ART CENTRE
Thabo Mocwiri (29), is the founder of Thabo Fashion Empire. He was born and raised in Tembisa. Mocwiri is a qualified mechanical engineer but chose fashion over fixing cars In 2015, Mocwiri saw the need to have a company that serves not only Tembisa, but also other surrounding townships, even nationwide.
“We do embroidery, sewing, and annual fashion shows,” Mocwiri told The Olifants. His company does sewing for individuals, and embroidery for corporations. “We also train models. If you can ask me what’s the difference between us and a modelling agency, I’d say it is that at an agency you must be 1.6 feet tall while with us we take you as you are,” Mucwiri said. “However, once you are part of the team we profile you and do photoshoots. We also do photoshoots for couples, friends and maternity shoots.” His company hosts two annual fashion shows, in June and November.
The events aim to showcase the winter and summer trends made with a passion for fashion, lifestyle and the love of a camera. It also aims to reach the audience through showcasing fashion trends, giving models a platform to showcase their talents and also groom those who love the spotlight but do not want to model in pageants.
“We are working with other designers across the country. They come as far as Cape Town and Limpopo. This year we will be doing the fifth annual fashion show. The posters will be out on the 2nd of March. The show will be here at Moses Molelekwa arts centre,” said Mucwiri.
